(EN)The conversion of an alcohol into a 1,3- diol via controlled, radical-mediated C-H functionalization has been demonstrated. The method entails nearly quantitative conversion of an alcohol to the corresponding N-substitutedcarbamate, followed by a variant of the Hofffman-Lδffler-Freytag reaction, cyclization, and hydrolysis to provide a 1,3-diol.
(FR)Cette invention concerne la conversion d’un alcool en un 1,3- diol par fonctionnalisation contrôlée de C-H avec radicaux. La méthode consiste à une conversion quasi quantitative d’un alcool en carbamate N-substitué correspondant, puis par une variante de la réaction de Hofffman-Lδffler-Freytag, cyclisation et hydrolyse pour obtenir un 1,3-diol.
