(EN)A modulation method for optical communication comprises the step of generating an optical signal modulated between a plurality of different states of polarization and between different phase states. The plurality of states of polarization comprises first states of polarization (SOP1-4). The first states of polarization (SOP1-4) define a single great circle (10) on the Poincaré sphere. The method is characterized in that the plurality of states of polarization further comprise one or more second states of polarization (SOP5- 6) located outside the great circle (10). Such additional second states of polarization increase the symbol alphabet.
(FR)L'invention porte sur un procédé de modulation pour une communication optique, qui comprend l'étape de génération d'un signal optique modulé entre une pluralité de différents états de polarisation et entre différents états de phase. La pluralité d'états de polarisation comprend des premiers états de polarisation (SOP1-4). Les premiers états de polarisation (SOP1-4) définissent un unique grand cercle (10) sur la sphère de Poincaré. Le procédé est caractérisé par le fait que la pluralité d'états de polarisation comprennent en outre un ou plusieurs seconds états de polarisation (SOP5-6) situés à l'extérieur du grand cercle (10).
