(EN)The armor system according to the present invention also exploits synergistic multi-layering to provide different properties as a function of depth within a sandwich panel. Various embodiments of the invention include a combination of composite sandwich topology concepts with hard, strong materials to provide structures that (i) efficiently support static and fatigue loads, (ii) mitigate the blast pressure transmitted to a system that they protect, (iii) provides very effective resistance to projectile penetration, and (iv) minimizes shock (stress wave) propagation within the multi-layered armor sandwich structure. By using small pieces of highly constrained ceramic, the concept has significant multi-hit potential.
(FR)L'invention concerne un système de protection dans lequel est utilisée l'application synergique de couches multiples afin d'obtenir différentes propriétés en fonction de la profondeur d'un panneau sandwich. Divers modes de réalisation de l'invention comprennent une combinaison de concepts topologiques de sandwich composite avec des matériaux durs et solides pour obtenir des structures qui (i) supportent de manière efficace des charges statiques et de fatigue, (ii) atténuent la pression de souffle transmise à un système qu'elles protègent, (iii) offrent une résistance très efficace à la pénétration des projectiles, et (iv) minimisent la propagation (ondes de contrainte) des chocs dans la structure en sandwich de protection à couches multiples.
