Abstract

The present invention provides improved methods for producing RPE cells from human embryonic stem cells or from other human pluripotent stem cells. The invention also relates to human retinal pigmented epithelial cells derived from human embryonic stem cells or other human multipotent or pluripotent stem cells. hRPE cells derived from embryonic stem cells are molecularly distinct from adult and fetal-derived RPE cells, and are also distinct from embryonic stem cells. The hRPE cells described herein are useful for treating retinal degenerative diseases.

La présente invention concerne des procédés améliorés pour la production de cellules RPE à partir de cellules souches d'embryon humain ou d'autres cellules souches pluripotentes humaines. L'invention a également pour objets des cellules épithéliales pigmentées de rétine humaine (hRPE) dérivées de cellules souches d'embryon humain ou d'autres cellules souches multipotentes ou pluripotentes humaines. Les cellules hRPE dérivées de cellules souches embryonnaires sont distinctes d'un point de vue moléculaire des cellules RPE dérivées d'adultes et de fœtus, et sont également distinctes des cellules souches embryonnaires. Les cellules hRPE décrites dans les présentes sont utiles au traitement de maladies dégénérescentes de la rétine.
