A method of making a top-emitting LED device, including providing, over a substrate, a laterally spaced and optically opaque lower electrode and an upper electrode buss that is electrically insulated from the lower electrode; depositing material forming an EL medium structure over the lower electrode and the upper electrode buss; depositing, over the EL medium structure, a first light-transmissive upper electrode that protects the EL medium structure from particulate contamination; and selectively removing most of the EL medium structure over a selective portion of the upper electrode buss.

La présente invention concerne un procédé de fabrication d'un dispositif LED émettant par le haut, comprenant les étapes consistant à déposer sur un substrat une électrode inférieure optiquement opaque et espacée latéralement et un bus d'électrode supérieure qui est isolé électriquement de l'électrode inférieure; déposer un matériau formant une structure de milieu électroluminescent sur l'électrode inférieure et le bus d'électrode supérieure; déposer sur la structure de milieu électroluminescent une première électrode supérieure transmissive à la lumière qui protège la structure de milieu électroluminescent d'une contamination particulaire; puis retirer sélectivement la majeure partie de la structure de milieu électroluminescent sur une partie sélective du bus d'électrode supérieure.
