Abstract

In accordance with one aspect of the invention, there is provided a shading protected solar cell apparatus for use in a solar cell system. The apparatus includes a solar cell having a front side current collector and a back side current collector. The apparatus also includes a bypass diode closely adjacent the back side current collector, the bypass diode having a front side current collector and a back side current collector. The apparatus further includes a first electrical coupling for electrically coupling the front side current collector of the bypass diode to the back side current collector of the solar cell. The apparatus also includes a second electrical coupling for electrically coupling the back side current collector of the bypass diode to the front side current collector of the solar cell, the first and second electrical couplings cooperating to enable a current generated by non-shaded solar cells in the system to be shunted through the bypass diode when the solar cell is shaded. The apparatus further includes a thermal coupling thermally coupling the bypass diode to a back side of the solar cell such that heat generated in the bypass diode due to current shunted through the bypass diode is dissipated by the solar cell sufficiently to avoid burning the solar cell or the bypass diode when the solar cell is shaded.

La présente invention concerne, sous un de ses aspects, un appareil de cellule solaire protégé par écran d'ombre ; il s'utilise dans un système à cellule solaire. L'appareil comprend une cellule solaire ayant un collecteur de courant latéral à l'avant et un autre à l'arrière. L'appareil comprend aussi une diode de dérivation très proche du collecteur de courant latéral arrière, cette diode comportant un collecteur de courant latéral à l'avant et un autre à l'arrière. L'appareil comprend aussi un premier couplage électrique pour coupler électriquement le collecteur de courant latéral avant de la diode de dérivation au collecteur de courant latéral arrière de la cellule solaire. Il inclut aussi un second couplage électrique pour coupler électriquement le collecteur de courant latéral arrière de la diode de dérivation au collecteur de courant latéral avant de la cellule solaire, le premier et le second couplages électriques coopérant pour activer un courant généré par des cellules solaires sans protection dans le système à dévier par la diode de dérivation lorsque la cellule solaire est protégée. L'appareil comprend en outre un couplage thermique qui couple thermiquement la diode de dérivation à un côté arrière de la cellule solaire de manière à ce que la chaleur générée dans la diode de dérivation due au courant dévié à travers la diode de dérivation soit suffisamment dissipée par la cellule solaire pour éviter de la brûler ou de brûler la diode de dérivation lorsque la cellule solaire est protégée.
