An apparatus for detecting an edge on a transparent substrate comprises a light source (12) provided at the rear side of the edge on a transparent substrate (10), a first polarizer (13) which is provided between the transparent substrate (10) and the light source (12) to convert the light from the light source (12) into the linear polarized light, an optical receiver section (15a) provided at the front side of the edge on a transparent substrate (10), and a second polarizer (14) which is provided between the transparent substrate (10) and the optical receiver section (15a) and has a polarization axis (Pb) perpendicular to a polarization axis (Pa) of the first polarizer (13). The optical receiver section (15a) is configured to observe, via the second polarizer (14), the linear polarized light which is converted by the first polarizer (13) to transmit through the edge on the transparent substrate (10), the linear polarized light passing through the outside of the transparent substrate (10) and the outgoing light which is propagated through the inside of the transparent substrate (10) to be emitted from the lateral side of the edge on the transparent substrate (10).

L'invention porte sur un appareil pour détecter une bordure sur un substrat transparent, lequel appareil comprend une source de lumière (12) disposée sur le côté arrière de la bordure sur un substrat transparent (10), un premier polariseur (13) qui est disposé entre le substrat transparent (10) et la source de lumière (12) pour convertir la lumière provenant de la source de lumière (12) en la lumière polarisée linéaire, une section réceptrice optique (15a) disposée sur le côté avant de la bordure sur un substrat transparent (10), et un second polariseur (14) qui est disposé entre le substrat transparent (10) et la section réceptrice optique (15a) et a un axe de polarisation (Pb) perpendiculaire à un axe de polarisation (Pa) du premier polariseur (13). La section réceptrice optique (15a) est configurée pour observer, par l'intermédiaire du second polariseur (14), la lumière polarisée linéaire qui est convertie par le premier polariseur (13) pour une transmission à travers la bordure sur le substrat transparent (10), la lumière polarisée linéaire passant à travers l'extérieur du substrat transparent (10) et la lumière sortante qui est amenée à se propager à travers l'intérieur du substrat transparent (10) devant être émise à partir du côté latéral de la bordure sur le substrat transparent (10).
