Abstract

A system and method prevents and diagnoses deep vein thrombosis in a body limb by providing a pressure sleeve having a plurality of individually fillable cells, the pressure sleeve being configurable to be placed around a body limb. A source fills each fillable cell individually, and a pressure sensor measures a pressure in a fillable cell. A controller establishes a fill sequence of each individually fillable cell and a fill time for each individually fillable cell. The controller causes a first individually fillable cell of the pressure sleeve to be filled to a predetermined pressure and causes the pressure of first individually fillable cell of the pressure sleeve to be measured while a second individually fillable cell of the pressure sleeve is filled. The controller determines a presence of deep vein thrombosis in a body limb having the pressure sleeve therearound based upon a measured pressure change in the first individually fillable cell of the pressure sleeve. The monitored pressure changes reflects the effect of venous obstruction on naturally occurred venous flow fluctuations like those caused by the respiratory cycle, and/or artificially created fluctuations like those caused by inflation of a second pressure cell. Relevant data can be collected during routine system application for deep vein thrombosis prevention on a 24/7 basis. In the case deep vein thrombosis is suspected, a controlled and more sophisticated study can be triggered using the same system.

L'invention concerne un système et une méthode qui permettent de prévenir et de diagnostiquer une thrombose veineuse profonde dans un membre du corps au moyen d'un manchon de pression doté d'une pluralité de cellules remplissables individuellement, le manchon de pression étant conçu pour être placé autour d'un membre du corps. Une source remplit chaque cellule remplissable individuellement, et un détecteur de pression mesure une pression dans une cellule remplissable. Une unité de commande établit une séquence de remplissage et un temps de remplissage pour de chaque cellule remplissable individuellement. L'unité de commande fait se remplir première cellule à une pression prédéterminée et mesure cette pression tandis qu'une seconde cellule remplissable individuellement du manchon de pression est remplie. L'unité de commande détermine la présence ou non d'une thrombose veineuse profonde dans un membre du corps ayant le manchon de pression autour de celui-ci sur la base d'un changement de pression mesurée dans la première cellule. Le changement de pression surveillé reflète l'effet d'une obstruction veineuse sur des fluctuations d'écoulement veineux se produisant naturellement comme celles provoquées par le cycle respiratoire et/ou les fluctuations créées artificiellement, notamment par un gonflage dans une seconde cellule de pression. Des données peuvent être recueillies pendant l'application d'un système de routine pour la prévention d'une thrombose veineuse profonde sur une base de 24 heures 7 jours sur 7. En cas de suspicion d'une thrombose veineuse profonde, une analyse contrôlée et plus complexe peut être entreprise à l'aide du même système.
