A transmission cable for use in an elongate medical device (420) such as a catheter, guide wire, etc., wherein the transmission cable is capable of being switched to an MR-safe mode only when necessary, while retaining its optimal electrical transmission properties otherwise, is disclosed herein. The transmission cable comprises a transmission line including at least two electrically conductive line segments (104a, 104b) separated by a non-conductive gap (106a), a bridging unit comprising at least one electrically conductive bridge segment (108a) capable of bridging the non-conductive gap, and a switching unit (112) arranged to move the bridging unit and/or the transmission line to electrically connect the two line segments by closing the non-conductive gap using the bridge segment or to electrically disconnect the two line segments by opening the non-conductive gap.

La présente invention se rapporte à un câble de transmission destiné à un usage dans un dispositif médical allongé (420) - comme, par exemple, un cathéter, un fil guide, etc. Dans l'invention, le câble de transmission est apte à être commuté dans un mode de sécurité MR uniquement lorsque cela est nécessaire tout en conservant autrement ses propriétés de transmission électrique optimales. Le câble de transmission comprend une ligne de transmission comprenant au moins deux segments de ligne électroconducteurs (104a, 104b) séparés par un espace non conducteur (106a), une unité de formation de pont comprenant au moins un segment de pont électroconducteur (108a) qui est apte de former un pont sur l'espace non conducteur, et une unité de commutation (112) qui est configurée pour déplacer l'unité de formation de pont et/ou la ligne de transmission de façon à connecter électriquement les deux segments de ligne en fermant l'espace non conducteur à l'aide du segment de pont ou de façon à déconnecter électriquement les deux segments de ligne en ouvrant l'espace non conducteur.
