The invention concerns a lightweight idler roller which includes a central shaft (12) in the form of a hollow, swaged tube with bearing support zones (14.3) having bearing support surfaces formed by centreless grinding towards either end. A hollow, cylindrical roll (18) is located around the shaft (12) and bearings, (17) are mounted on the bearing support zones (14.3) to support the roll (18) in rotatable manner relative to the shaft (12). Bearing housings (20) are carried by the roll (18) and house the bearings (17). Bearing seals (26) are located on the ends of the shaft (12) outboard of the bearings (17) and end plugs (16) are press-fitted into the ends of the tube to hold the bearing seals (26) axially in position. These end plugs (16) have projecting end (16.2) portions which are shaped for non-rotatable engagement by shaft support structures at either end of the shaft (12).

L'invention concerne un rouleau fou libre de faible poids qui comprend un arbre central ( (12) sous la forme d'un tube creux matricé avec des zones de support de palierroulement ( (14.3) comportant des surfaces de support de palierroulement formées par rectification sans centres vers l'une ou l'autre extrémité. Un rouleau cylindrique creux ( (18) est disposé autour de l'arbre ( (12), et des palierroulements ( (17) sont montés sur les zones de support de palierroulement ( (14.3) afin de supporter le rouleau ( (18) de façon rotative par rapport à l'arbre ( (12). Des boîtiers de palierroulement ( (20) sont portés par le rouleau ( (18) et renferment les palierroulements ( (17). Des joints de palierroulement ( (26) sont disposés sur les extrémités de l'arbre ( (12) à l'extérieur des palierroulements ( (17) et des bouchons d'extrémité ( (16) sont emmanchés à la presse dans les extrémités du tube afin de maintenir les joints de palierroulement ( (26) axialement en position. Ces bouchons d'extrémité ( (16) comportent des parties d'extrémité saillantes ( (16.2) qui sont configurées pour un engagement non-rotatif par des structures de support d'arbre à chaque extrémité de l'arbre ( (12).
