A method is disclosed for establishing communication links in a satellite based wireless communication system. The method includes: establishing a forward link from the satellite to at least one of a plurality of subscriber wireless communication devices (WCDs) by use of a shared frequency multi-user communication protocol; applying an error correction code to use in the forward link, whereby the error correction applies to an aggregation of communications provided to multiple ones of the WCDs; and receiving communications in a return link signal by use of a protocol providing channels having dedicated frequency assignments and non-slotted channel assignment.

La présente invention concerne un procédé pour établir des liaisons de communication dans un système de communication sans fil basée sur un satellite. Le procédé comprend : l'établissement d'une liaison montante du satellite vers au moins un dispositif de communication sans fil d'abonné parmi une pluralité de tels dispositifs (WCDs) à l'aide d'un protocole de communication à utilisateurs multiples à fréquence partagée ; l'application d'un code de correction d'erreur à utiliser dans la liaison montante, la correction d'erreur étant appliquée à un agrégat de communications prévu pour multiplier les multiples WCDs concernés ; et la réception de communications dans un signal de liaison de retour à l'aide d'un protocole fournissant des canaux ayant une attribution de fréquence propre et une attribution de canal sans segmentation temporelle.
