A method of placing nodes in an area that requires coverage, the method includes the step of creating a network topology such that the average path length is kept to a minimum number of hops at the time of placement of a new node, wherein a limit is placed on a number of neighbors at the time of placement of the new node, the number being a parameter that impacts the average path length, resiliency and capital investment. The new node is connected to at least one node in the network.

L' invention concerne un procédé de mise en place de noeuds dans une zone nécessitant d'être couverte. Le procédé de l'invention comprend une étape qui consiste à créer une topologie de réseau de façon que la longueur de voie moyenne soit maintenue à un nombre minimum de sauts au moment de la mise en place d'un nouveau noeud; une limite étant mise en place sur un certain nombre de voisins au moment de la mise en place du nouveau noeud, le nombre étant un paramètre qui a un impact sur la longueur de voie moyenne, la résilience et l'investissement en capital. Le nouveau noeud est connecté à au moins un noeud dans le réseau.
