A method and apparatus of an OFDM system that utilizes the synchronization channel, SCH, by the user equipment, UE, to obtain time synchronization information and to perform cell search. In order to perform the SCH detection, only a correlation between the known SCH signal and the received sequence is needed (201), hence the FFT is not involved in the synchronization step. Typically the SCH and pilot symbols are transmitted with a constant power which is the same for all base stations. Hence, based on the serving cell, SC, SCH and pilot symbols, the power relation between these signals is estimated (202, 203, 204) and the ratio applied when performing time synchronization to other cells i.e. correlation the received sequence with the SCH from that particular neighboring cell, to estimate the pilot signal strength for the neighboring cell (205, 206, 207).

L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil d'un système OFDM utilisant le canal de synchronisation (SCH) par l'équipement utilisateur (UE) pour obtenir des informations de synchronisation temporelle et réaliser une recherche de cellule. Afin de réaliser la détection de SCH, seule une corrélation entre le signal SCH connu et la séquence reçue est nécessaire (201), ainsi la FFT n'est pas impliquée dans l'étape de synchronisation. Généralement le SCH et les symboles pilotes sont transmis avec une puissance constante qui est la même pour toutes les stations de base. Ainsi, sur la base du SCH et des symboles pilotes de la cellule de desserte (SC), la relation de puissance entre ces signaux est estimée (202, 203, 204) et le rapport appliqué lors de la réalisation d'une synchronisation temporelle sur d'autres cellules, c'est-à-dire une corrélation de la séquence reçue avec le SCH provenant de cette cellule voisine particulière, pour estimer l'intensité de signal pilote pour la cellule voisine (205, 206, 207).
