A reflective polarizer contains: (a) a light-entrance medium (42) having a light-entrance surface (51) and a microstructured surface (44) with a series of prismatic structures (46), wherein first and second sidewalls (47a, 47b) of each prismatic structure have an inclination angle of more than 53 degrees with respect to the light-entrance surface; (b) a polarization-selective thin film optical coating (48) on the series of prismatic structures, for transmitting a first polarization of light and reflecting a second polarization; and (c) a light-exit medium (43) on the polarization-selective thin film optical coating that provides a smooth light-exit surface (52).

Le polariseur réfléchissant selon l'invention contient : (a) un moyen d'entrée de lumière comportant une surface d'entrée de lumière et une surface microstructurée avec une série de structures prismatiques, l'angle d'inclinaison des première et seconde parois latérales de chaque structure prismatique étant supérieur à 53 degrés par rapport à la surface d'entrée de lumière; (b) un revêtement optique en pellicule mince sélectif en polarisation sur la série de structures prismatiques, servant à transmettre une première polarisation de lumière et à réfléchir une seconde polarisation; et (c) un moyen de sortie de lumière sur le revêtement optique en pellicule mince sélectif en polarisation qui comporte une surface de sortie de lumière lisse.
