A system and method are disclosed for noninvasively diagnosing limb compartment syndrome by measuring a quantitative modulus of hardness. In the preferred embodiment, a nonmovable pressure probe mounted in the center of a movable spring loaded platform is applied against a limb compartment. Force is gradually applied to the probe and the platform, compressing a limb compartment. Pressure on the probe is measured as the probe pushes into the limb. The spring loaded platform displaces, and the distance of the probe tip to the platform is measured. This distance is the depth of compression into the limb by the probe. The relationship of incremental pressures in the probe and the corresponding distance of the probe tip to the platform for each pressure is plotted. A linear regression analysis is performed whose slope forms a quantitative modulus of hardness.

L'invention concerne un système et une méthode pour diagnostiquer de manière non invasive un syndrome de compartiment d'un membre en mesurant un module quantitatif de dureté. Dans la représentation préférée, une sonde de pression non mobile montée au centre d'une plate-forme mobile à ressort est appliquée contre un compartiment du membre. Une force est appliquée progressivement à la sonde et à la plate-forme, en comprimant un compartiment du membre. La pression sur la sonde est mesurée alors que la sonde est poussée dans le membre. La plate-forme à ressort se déplace et la distance entre la pointe de la sonde et la plate-forme est mesurée. Ladite distance est la profondeur de compression de la sonde dans le membre. La courbe du rapport entre les pressions croissantes de la sonde et la distance entre la pointe de la sonde et la plate-forme correspondant à chaque pression est tracée. Une analyse de régression linéaire est réalisée dont la pente représente un module quantitatif de dureté.
