La présente invention concerne un catalyseur pour la purification de gaz d'échappement, comprenant : un matériau (A) qui peut libérer un métal noble à une température élevée ; et un matériau (B) qui contient un oxyde composite de zircone et/ou d'alumine et au moins un élément choisi dans le groupe constitué des éléments de métaux alcalino-terreux, des éléments terres rares et des éléments du groupe 3A, et qui reçoit le métal noble libéré du matériau (A) à la température élevée.
