The present invention provides phosphinic acids and their sulfur derivatives, in accordance with the following formula (I): wherein R1 and R2 are different and each of R1 and R2 is independently selected from an organic radical that branches at the alpha carbon and an organic radical that branches at the beta carbon, and each of X and Y is independently O or S, and wherein said compound is a liquid at room temperature. Compounds of formula (I) find utility for example as metal extractants. Also provided are methods for making compounds of formula (I) and their corresponding phosphine intermediates.

La présente invention concerne des acides phosphiniques et leurs dérivés soufrés répondant à la formule (I) : dans laquelle R1 et R2 sont différents et R1 et R2 sont chacun indépendamment choisis parmi un radical organique qui est ramifié au niveau de l'atome de carbone en position alpha et un radical organique qui est ramifié au niveau de l'atome de carbone en position bêta, et X et Y représentent chacun indépendamment O ou S, ledit composé étant un liquide à la température ambiante. Les composés répondant à la formule (I) trouvent une utilité, par exemple, comme extracteurs de métal. La présente invention concerne également les procédés de fabrication des composés répondant à la formule (I) et leurs intermédiaires de type phosphine correspondants.
