A method and apparatus is disclosed whereby noise is introduced at one or more base stations in non-HSDPA cells into the uplink signal from one or more user devices. As a result, the apparent quality of the uplink channel in those cells will appear to be lower than the actual quality of that channel. The power control commands issued from the base station to the user device will, therefore, reflect this lower estimated channel quality and, as a result, the user device will follow power control commands from the base station in the HSDPA cell. Therefore, the transmit power of the user device will remain adequate to communicate with the base station in the HSDPA cell and, as a result, the UL and DL in the HSDPA cell will remain synchronized, and path imbalance is reduced.

L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil selon lesquels un bruit est introduit au niveau d'une ou plusieurs stations de base dans des cellules non HSDPA dans le signal de liaison montante depuis un ou plusieurs dispositifs utilisateurs. En conséquence, la qualité apparente du canal de liaison montante dans ces cellules apparaîtra comme étant inférieure à la qualité réelle de ce canal. Les commandes de régulation de puissance émises de la station de base au dispositif utilisateur refléteront, par conséquent, cette qualité de canal estimée inférieure et, en conséquence, le dispositif utilisateur suivra les commandes de régulation de puissance de la station de base dans la cellule HSDPA. Donc, la puissance d'émission du dispositif utilisateur restera adéquate pour communiquer avec la station de base dans la cellule HSDPA et, en conséquence, l'UL et le DL dans la cellule HSDPA resteront synchronisés et le déséquilibre de voies sera réduit.
