In valve timing control after issuance of an engine stop instruction (YES at S100) with a prescribed value (CA#) set as a target phase (S110), an ECU delays permission of an engine stop process (S130) within a prescribed time period (NO at step S140) while an intake valve phase (IV(q)) has not yet reached the target value (CA#) (NO at S120), so that a valve timing control operation is continued (S150) while the engine operation is continued in an idle state. After the lapse of a prescribed time period from the issuance of the engine stop instruction (YES at S140), however, the ECU permits the engine stop process (S130) no matter whether the intake valve phase has reached the target value (CA#) or not. As a result, the amount of valve timing that can be changed by the valve timing control in the engine stop operation can be increased, without causing any uncomfortable feeling of the driver.

Dans une commande de distribution après l'émission d'une instruction d'arrêt du moteur (OUI à S100) dotée d'une valeur prescrite (CA#) réglée en tant que phase cible (S110), un élément de réglage électronique (ECU) retarde la permission d'un processus d'arrêt du moteur (S130) dans une période de temps prescrite (NON à l'étape S140) pendant qu'une phase de soupape d'admission (IV(q)) n'a pas encore atteint la valeur cible (CA#) (NON à S120), de telle sorte qu'une opération de commande de distribution est poursuivie (S150) tandis que le moteur continue à marcher au ralenti. Cependant, après l'écoulement d'une période de temps prescrite à partir de l'émission de l'instruction d'arrêt du moteur (OUI à S140), l'élément de réglage électronique permet le processus d'arrêt du moteur (S130), que la phase de soupape d'admission ait atteint la valeur cible (CA#) ou non. La quantité de distribution, qui peut être modifiée par le réglage de distribution dans l'opération d'arrêt du moteur, peut ainsi être augmentée sans causer de sensation désagréable au conducteur.
