Abstract

A laser (100) includes a optical fiber (150) having a cladding (104) that defines a hollow core (102), a laser active medium (106) within the core of the optical fiber, a first reflector and a second reflector defining a cavity (114, 116) within at least a portion of the optical fiber; and an excitation system coupled to the laser active medium to stimulate laser action within the core of the optical fiber. The laser active medium can be a gas, a liquid, or a solid. The excitation system comprises an electrical power source (108, 110, 128) and electrodes (112, 132) for coupling electrical energy from the electrical power source through the cladding into the laser active medium. The laser further comprises means (120, 122) for creating a magnetic field in a direction approximately parallel to a portion of the optical fiber.

L'invention concerne un laser (100) comprenant une fibre optique (150) comportant une gaine (104) qui définit un cœur creux (102), un milieu laser actif (106) à l'intérieur du cœur creux de la fibre optique, un premier réflecteur et un second réflecteur définissant une cavité (114, 116) à l'intérieur d'au moins une partie de la fibre optique ; et un système d'excitation couplé au milieu laser actif pour stimuler l'action laser à l'intérieur du cœur de la fibre optique. Le système d'excitation comprend une alimentation électrique (108, 110, 128) et des électrodes (112, 132) pour coupler l'énergie électrique de l'alimentation électrique à travers la gaine jusque dans le milieu laser actif. Le laser comprend en outre des moyens (120, 122) pour créer un champ magnétique dans une direction approximativement parallèle à une partie de la fibre optique.
