Suggested is an improved or the production of fatty acid lower alkyl esters according to formula (I), R1CO-OR2 in which R1CO represents a linear or branched acyl radical having 6 to 22 carbon atoms and 0 or 1 to 6 double bonds and R2 for a linear or branched alkyl radical having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, by transesterification of triglycerides or fatty acid esters with C1 -C6 aliphatic alcohols, which is characterised in that (a) in a first reactor a source of carbohydrates is subjected to fermentation to provide a broth mainly consisting of aqueous aliphatic C1 -C6 alcohol, (b) in a second reactor a triglyceride and/or an ester of a fatty acid with an higher alcohol is placed together with a biocatalyst capable to effect a transesterification reaction, and (c) said aqueous aliphatic C1-C6 alcohol obtained from the first reactor is transferred into the second reactor in order to effect the transesterification reaction in a two-phase systern. The products thus obtained a re particular useful as so-called bio-diesel.

La présente invention concerne un processus amélioré de production d'esters d'alkyle inférieur d'acide gras répondant à la formule (I) R1CO-OR2 dans laquelle R1CO représente un radical acyle linéaire ou ramifié ayant de 6 à 22 atomes de carbone et de 0 ou 1 à 6 liaisons doubles et R2 représente un radical alkyle linéaire ou ramifié ayant de 1 à 6 atomes de carbone, par la transestérification de triglycérides ou d'esters d'acide gras avec des alcools aliphatiques en C1 à C6. Ce processus est caractérisé en ce que (a) dans un premier réacteur, une source de glucides est soumise à une fermentation pour fournir un bouillon se composant principalement d'un alcool aliphatique aqueux en C1 à C6, (b) que dans un second réacteur, on introduit un triglycéride et/ou un ester d'un acide gras avec un alcool supérieur ainsi qu'un biocatalyseur capable d'effectuer une réaction de transestérification, et (c) que ledit alcool aliphatique aqueux en C1 à C6 obtenu dans le premier réacteur est transféré dans le second réacteur en vue d'une réaction de transestérification dans un système biphasique. Les produits ainsi obtenus sont particulièrement utiles en tant que biofioul.
