Abstract

The electrically variable transmission family of the present invention provides low-content, low-cost electrically variable transmission mechanism including first, second and third differential gear sets (20, 30, 40), a battery (86), two electric machines (80, 82) serving interchangeably as motors or generators, six selectable torque-transfer devices (50, 52, 54, 57, 55, 58) and possibly a dog clutch (792). The selectable torque transmitting devices are engaged to yield an EVT with a continuously variable range of speeds (including reverse) and at least four mechanically fixed forward speed ratios. The torque transmitting devices and the first and second motor/generators are operable to provide five operating modes in the electrically variable transmission, including battery reverse mode, EVT reverse mode, reverse and forward launch modes, continuously variable transmission range mode and fixed ratio mode.

La famille de boîtes de vitesses électriquement variable (EVT)de la présente invention comprend des mécanismes de transmission électriquement variable comportant un premier, un deuxième et un troisième train planétaire, une batterie, deux machines électriques fonctionnant en alternance comme moteurs ou comme génératrices, six dispositifs de transfert de couple sélectionnable et éventuellement un embrayage à crabot. Lorsqu'ils sont engagés, les dispositifs transmetteurs de couple sélectionnables fournissent à la boîte EVT des plages de vitesse à variation ininterrompue (y compris en marche AR) et au moins quatre rapports de vitesse en marche AV fixes mécaniquement. Les dispositifs transmetteurs de couple et les premier et second moteurs/générateurs sont conçus pour fournir cinq modes de fonctionnement dans la boîte électriquement variable, dont un mode batterie en marche AR, un mode EVT en marche AR, des modes de lancement en marche RA et AV, un mode de transmission variable en continu et un mode à rapports fixes.
