This disclosure relates to a porous electrically conductive carbon material having interconnected pores in first and second size ranges from 10µm to 100nm and from less than 100nm to 3nm and a graphene structure and to diverse uses of the material such as an electrode in a lithium-ion battery and a catalyst support, e.g. for the oxidation of methanol in a fuel cell. The carbon material has been heat treated to effect conversion to non-graphitic carbon with the required degree of order at a temperature in the range from 600°C to 1000°C. A lithium-ion battery and an electrode for a lithium-ion battery are also claimed.

L'invention concerne un matériau carboné électriquement conducteur poreux renfermant des pores interreliés dans une première et une deuxième gammes de tailles de 10 µm à 100 nm et de moins de 100 nm à 3 nm, et une structure de graphène, et diverses utilisations du matériau, telles qu'une électrode pour une batterie lithium-ion et un support de catalyseur, par ex. pour l'oxydation du méthanol dans une pile à combustible. Le matériau carboné a été traité thermiquement pour réaliser une transformation en carbone non graphitique avec le degré d'ordre nécessaire à une température dans la gamme de 600 °C à 1000 °C. L'invention concerne également une batterie lithium-ion et une électrode pour batterie lithium-ion.
