Abstract
(EN) A spacecraft propulsion system comprises a plurality of wires (102) or other electrically conductive elongated members deployed from a main body (101) into respective radial directions. An electric potential generator (605) generates an electric potential on board said main body (101). The electric coupling between the electric potential generator (605) and the elongated members is controlled (604) so that all or some of the elongated members (102) assume a high positive potential. An auxiliary propulsion system (203) rotates said main body around a rotational axis (502) that is perpendicular to said radial directions, thus creating a centrifugal supporting force to the elongated members.
(FR) Système de propulsion d'un véhicule spatial comprenant une pluralité de câbles (102) ou d'autres éléments conducteurs électriques de forme allongée, déployés depuis un structure principale (101) vers des directions respectivement radiales. Un générateur de potentiel électrique (605) délivre un potentiel électrique à bord de ladite structure principale (101). Le couplage électrique entre le générateur de potentiel électrique (605) et les éléments de forme allongée est commandé (604) de manière à ce que tout ou partie des éléments de forme allongée (102) présente un potentiel positif élevé. Un système de propulsion auxiliaire (203) fait tourner ladite structure principale autour d'un axe de rotation (502) perpendiculaire auxdites directions axiales, créant ainsi une force centrifuge soutenant les éléments de forme allongée.
