Improving performance of DSL modem under impulse noise is disclosed. A method of improving a performance of a digital subscriber line (DSL) modem having an impulse noise of long duration includes assigning a value to each of framing parameters based on a rate adaptation algorithm (304) which considers a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of a channel coupled to the DSL modem and a number of constraints applied to the DSL modem. The method also includes generating another set of values of the framing parameters through maximizing an impulse noise protection (INP) (312) of the DSL modem while meeting the number of constraints based on a limited set of possible values of the redundancy bytes per Reed Solomon codeword (Rp) of the framing parameters and a limited collection of possible values of the interleaver depth (Dp) of the framing parameters.

L'invention concerne l'amélioration des performances en bruit impulsionnel d'un modem DSL. La méthode d'amélioration des performances d'un modem pour ligne d'abonné numérique (DSL) ayant un bruit impulsionnel de longue durée comprend l'affectation d'une valeur à chacun des paramètres de tramage en fonction d'un algorithme d'adaptation de taux (304) qui considère un rapport signal/bruit (SNR) d'un canal couplé au modem DSL et un certain nombre de contraintes appliquées au modem DSL. La méthode comprend également la génération d'un autre jeu de valeurs des paramètres de tramage en maximisant une protection contre le bruit impulsionnel (INP) (312) du modem DSL tout en répondant aux contraintes en fonction d'un jeu limité de valeurs possibles des octets de redondance par mot de code Reed Solomon (Rp) des paramètres de tramage et d'une collection limitée de valeurs possibles de la profondeur d'entrelacement (Dp) des paramètres de tramage.
