A separable structure (10) includes composite material that is separated or severed by a reactive pyrotechnic material. According to one embodiment, the structure includes a pair of composite laminate structural portions (12, 14), each including multiple layers of composite material (16, 18). The portions each extend into an overlap region (20), within which the composite layers of the two structural portions may be alternately placed, overlapping one another. A reactive material (24) is also placed within this overlap region, for instance being in layers (29) between pairs of the composite material layers. The reactive material may be ignited to cause destruction of the pyrotechnic material, and a matrix or resin material of the composite materials layers in the overlap region. This causes the structure to separate along a line of separation within the overlap region. The separation may occur without need to sever fibers of the composite material.

L'invention concerne une structure séparable (10) comprenant une matière composite qui est séparée ou endommagée par une matière pyrotechnique réactive. Selon un mode de réalisation, la structure comprend une paire de parties de structure stratifiées composites (12, 14), comprenant chacune de multiples couches de matière composite (16, 18). Les parties s'étendent chacune vers une zone de recouvrement (20), à l'intérieur de laquelle les couches composites des deux parties de structure peuvent être placées en alternance, l'une recouvrant l'autre. Une matière réactive (24) est également placée à l'intérieur de cette zone de recouvrement, par exemple en couches (29) entre les paires des couches de matière composite.
