In a camera where the lens is movable along the optical axis relative to the image sensor for auto-focus or zooming purposes, the lens is moved by a carrier having a carrier portion adjacent to a fixed body portion of the camera. A reflection surface is provided on either the carrier portion or the body portion. A photo-emitter and sensor pair is disposed on the other portion to illuminate the reflection surface and to detect the reflected light therefrom. The reflection surface is provided near the edge of a surface such that the light cone emitted by the photo-emitter partly hits the reflection surface and partly falls beyond the edge. As the lens is moved relative to the body portion, the area on the reflection surface illuminated by the photo-emitter changes causing a change in the amount of detected light.

Dans une caméra dont l'objectif peut se déplacer le long de l'axe optique par rapport au détecteur d'image aux fins de mise au point automatique ou de grossissement, l'objectif est mu par un élément porteur dont une partie se trouve contre une partie fixe du corps de la caméra. On trouve une surface réfléchissante soit sur la partie élément porteur, soit sur la partie corps. Une paire constituée d'un photoémetteur et d'un détecteur, qui est disposée sur l'autre partie, éclaire la surface réfléchissante dont elle détecte la lumière réfléchie. La surface réfléchissante se trouve près du bord de la surface de sorte que le cône de lumière émis par le photoémetteur en partie frappe partiellement la surface réfléchissante et en partie tombe au delà du bord. Lorsque l'objectif se déplace par rapport à la partie corps, la zone de la surface réfléchissante éclairée par le photoémetteur change, ce qui modifie la quantité de lumière détectée.
