Abstract

The dual-pulsation bi-ventricular assist device (DPbi-VAD) proposed presently includes 1) conduit manifold, 2) blood pump having a blood compartment, a pumping compartment and a pumping membrane separating the blood compartment and the pumping compartment, 3) extra-corporeal or intra-corporeal driver system, 4) physiological controller, 5) systolic support sac having an inflatable chamber, and 6) energy and information transfer system. The controller controls the driver system to alternately or intermittently repeat the following steps a) filling the pumping compartment with a working fluid while withdrawing the working fluid, from the inflatable chamber, and b) filling the inflatable chamber with the working fluid while withdrawing the working fluid from the pumping compartment. This DPbi-VAD can be implanted with the diseased heart intact.

Dispositif d'assistance bi-ventriculaire à double pulsation (DPbi-VAD) comprenant 1) un collecteur de conduit, 2) une pompe sanguine dotée d'un compartiment de sang, d'un compartiment de pompage et d'une membrane de pompage séparant le compartiment de sang du compartiment de pompage, 3) un système d'entraînement extracorporel ou intracorporel, 4) une unité de commande physiologique, 5) un sac de soutien systolique doté d'une chambre gonflable et 6) un système de transfert d'énergie et d'informations. L'unité de commande pilote le système d'entraînement pour répéter de façon alternée ou intermittente les étapes suivantes : a) remplir le compartiment de pompage d'un fluide de travail tout en retirant le fluide de travail de la chambre gonflable et b) remplir la chambre gonflable du fluide de travail tout en retirant le fluide de travail du compartiment de pompage. Le DPbi-VAD de la présente invention peut être implanté en laissant intact le cœur malade.
