Drug eluting vascular closure devices and methods for closing a blood vessel puncture site disposed at a distal end of a tissue tract are described. The devices and methods rely on a combination of the body's own natural mechanism to achieve hemostasis with bio-chemical agents to accelerate the hemostatic process. One method includes the steps of introducing a closure device through the tissue tract and deploying an expansible member at a distal end of the device within the blood vessel to occlude the puncture site. A bio-chemical sealing member disposed proximal the expansible member is then displaced so as to expose a bio-chemical region or release region of the device. At least one bio-chemical agent is thereafter released from the device and into the tissue tract to accelerate the occlusion process in the tract.

L'invention concerne des dispositifs et des méthodes permettant d'obtenir une fermeture vasculaire par élution de médicaments. Les dispositifs et les méthodes de l'invention sont destinés à fermer un site de poncture de vaisseau sanguin situé à une extrémité distale d'une voie tissulaire. Les dispositifs et les méthodes de l'invention font intervenir le mécanisme naturel du corps humain pour obtenir une hémostase, et des agents biochimiques pour accélérer le processus hémostatique. Une méthode de l'invention comprend les étapes consistant à: introduire un dispositif de fermeture dans la voie tissulaire et déployer un élément dilatable, à l'extrémité distale du dispositif, à l'intérieur du vaisseau sanguin, pour occlure le site de poncture. Un élément de scellement biochimique placé de manière proximale à l'élément dilatable est ensuite déplacé afin d'exposer la zone biochimique ou la zone de libération du dispositif. Au moins un agent biochimique est ensuite libéré du dispositif et injecté dans la voie tissulaire pour accélérer le processus d'occlusion de cette voie.
