Abstract

A twin roll casting machine and method of continuously casting thin strip that enables the manufacture of thin strip by applying a thrust force through casting roll support structures on each casting roll to bias the casting rolls together, such that a majority portion of the thrust force counterbalance ferrostatic pressure. Cooling water is caused to flow through rotary joints (10) that are attached to one or both of the ends of casting rolls (1). The rotary joints 10 at each casting cause cooling water to flow into and from the passages in the casting rolls and exert forces on the casting rolls generally in the direction along the rotational axis of the casting rolls (1).

Machine de laminage à rouleaux jumeaux et procédé de laminage en continu de bande mince permettant la fabrication de bande mince par application d'une force de poussée, au moyen de structures support de rouleaux de laminage sur chaque rouleau de laminage pour maintenir les rouleaux de laminage ensemble, afin qu'une majeure partie de la force de poussée contrebalance la pression ferrostatique. De l'eau de refroidissement est dirigée pour s'écouler au travers des joints rotatifs (10) qui sont solidaires d'une ou de deux des extrémités des rouleaux (1) de laminage. Les joints rotatifs (10), à chaque laminage, provoquent l'écoulement de l'eau de refroidissement dans et hors des passages dans les rouleaux de laminage et exercent des forces sur les rouleaux de laminage sensiblement dans la direction de l'axe de rotation des rouleaux de laminage (1).
