Abstract:
(EN) An electrochemical process for the production of sodium hypochlorite is disclosed. The process may potentially be used to produce sodium hypochlorite from seawater or low purity un-softened or NaCl-based salt solutions. The process utilizes a sodium ion conductive ceramic membrane (12), such as membranes based on NASICON-type materials, in an electrolytic cell (10). In the process, water is reduced at a cathode (20) to form hydroxyl ions and hydrogen gas. Chloride ions from a sodium chloride solution (26) are oxidized in the anolyte compartment (14) to produce chlorine gas which reacts with water (28) to produce hypochlorous and hydrochloric acid. Sodium ions (22) are transported from the anolyte compartment (14) to the catholyte compartment (16) across the sodium ion conductive ceramic membrane (12). Sodium hydroxide is transported from the catholyte compartment (16) to the anolyte compartment (14) to produce sodium hypochlorite within the anolyte compartment (14).
(FR) L’invention concerne un processus électrochimique de fabrication d’hypochlorite de sodium. Le processus peut éventuellement servir à produire de l’hypochlorite de sodium à partir d’eau de mer ou de solutions salines à base NaCl ou non adoucies de faible pureté. Le processus utilise une membrane de céramique conductrice à ion de sodium (12), comme des membranes à base de matériaux de type NASICON, dans une pile électrolytique (10). Dans le processus, l’eau est réduite au niveau d’une cathode (20) pour constituer des ions hydroxyles et du gaz hydrogène. Les ions de chlorure provenant d’une solution de chlorure de sodium (26) sont oxydés dans le compartiment anolytique (14) pour obtenir du chlore gazeux qui réagit avec de l’eau (28) pour obtenir de l’acide hypochloreux et chlorhydrique. Les ions de sodium (22) sont transportés depuis le compartiment anolytique (14) vers le compartiment catholytique (16) de part et d’autres de la membrane de céramique conductrice à ion de sodium (12).
