(EN)A building pressure management strategy includes selectively pressurizing a vertical shaft (40) such as an elevator hoistway or stairwell. The pressure within the shaft (40) is selectively controlled to correspond to the pressure on at least one building level (A-ZZ) to meet the needs of a particular situation. A variety of considerations are disclosed that correspond to different pressurization needs.
