CLAIMS:
WE CLAIM:

1. A method for transmitting a pilot report (PilotReport) message in a wireless communication system characterized in that:
generating a PilotReport message; and
determining if an Active Set Size value is greater than one.

2. The method as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that determining if an enhanced pilot report enabled (EnhancedPilotReportEnabled) value is 1, if strength of a pilot in an active set has changed by more than an enhanced pilot response threshold (EnhancedPilotResponseThreshold) value since the last transmitted PilotReport message and transmitting the PilotReport message, if the Active Set Size value is greater than one.

3. The method as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that determining if the EnhancedPilotReportEnabled value is 1, if the strength of a strongest non-active pilot is more than an enhanced pilot report ratio (EnhancedPilotReportRatio) fraction of total interference and if the strength of strongest non-active pilot is more than the strength of a strongest second pilot by EnhancedPilotReportThreshold at a time when the last pilot report was transmitted and transmitting the PilotReport message, if the Active Set Size value is one.

4. A computer-readable medium including instructions stored thereon,
characterized in that:
a first set of instructions for generating a pilot report (PilotReport) message; and a second set of instructions for determining if an Active Set Size value is greater than one.

5. The computer-readable medium as claimed in claim 4, characterized in that a third set of instructions for determining if an enhanced pilot report enabled
(EnhancedPilotReportEnabled) value is 1, if strength of a pilot in an active set has changed by more than an enhanced pilot response threshold (EnhancedPilotResponseThreshold) value since the last transmitted PilotReport message and transmitting the PilotReport message, if the Active Set Size value is greater than one.

6. The computer-readable medium as claimed in claim 4, characterized in that a fourth set of instructions for determining if the EnhancedPilotReportEnabled value is 1, if the strength of a strongest non-active pilot is more than an enhanced pilot report ratio (EnhancedPilotReportRatio) fraction of total interference and if the strength of strongest non-active pilot is more than the strength of a strongest second pilot by
EnhancedPilotReportThreshold at a time when the last pilot report was transmitted and transmitting the PilotReport message, if the Active Set Size value is one.

7. An apparatus operable in a wireless communication system, characterized in that:
means for generating a pilot report (PilotReport) message; and
means for determining if an Active Set Size value is greater than one.

8. The apparatus as claimed in claim 7, characterized in that means for determining if an enhanced pilot report enabled (EnhancedPilotReportEnabled) value is 1, if strength of a pilot in an active set has changed by more than an enhanced pilot response threshold (EnhancedPilotResponseThreshold) value since the last transmitted
PilotReport message and transmitting the PilotReport message, if the Active Set Size value is greater than one.

9. The apparatus as claimed in claim 7, characterized in that means for determining if the EnhancedPilotReportEnabled value is 1, if the strength of a strongest non-active pilot is more than an enhanced pilot report ratio (EnhancedPilotReportRatio) fraction of total interference and if the strength of strongest non-active pilot is more than the strength of a strongest second pilot by EnhancedPilotReportThreshold at a time when the last pilot report was transmitted and transmitting the PilotReport message, if the Active Set Size value is one.
