A fuel cell component is made with a composite including a proton conducting polymer, a water insoluble proton conducting inorganic material, and a heteropolyacid immobilized by chemically bonding to the inorganic material. In another embodiment, the fuel cell component is made with a composite including a non- proton conducting polymer, a water insoluble inorganic material, and a heteropolyacid immobilized by chemically bonding to the inorganic material, the heteropolyacid causing the composite to show proton conductivity. In a further embodiment, the fuel cell component is made with a composite comprising a proton conducting polymer, a water insoluble proton conducting inorganic material, and a heteropolyacid immobilized by chemically bonding to the inorganic material, the composite having substantially identical structure of the unmodified heteropolyacid.

Cette invention concerne un composant de pile à combustible constitué d'un composite comprenant un polymère conducteur protonique, un matériau inorganique conducteur protonique insoluble dans l'eau et un hétéropolyacide immobilisé par liaison chimique sur le matériau inorganique. Dans un autre mode de réalisation, le composant de pile à combustible est constitué d'un composite comprenant un polymère conducteur non protonique, un matériau inorganique insoluble dans l'eau et un hétéropolyacide immobilisé par liaison chimique sur le matériau inorganique, l'hétéropolyacide poussant le composite à présenter une conductivité protonique. Dans un autre mode de réalisation, le composant de pile à combustible est constitué d'un composite comprenant un polymère conducteur protonique, un matériau inorganique conducteur protonique insoluble dans l'eau et un hétéropolyacide immobilisé par liaison chimique sur le matériau inorganique, le composite présentant une structure substantiellement identique à celle de l'hétéropolyacide non modifié.
