A method and apparatus for detecting a high pressure condition within an interrupter includes introducing high intensity ultrasonic sound into the outer wall of a vacuum interrupter through a sonic wave guide, then listening for the reflected and retransmitted response signals. The characteristics of the response signals are utilized to determine the pressure within the interrupter, and to determine when an unwanted high pressure condition exists.

L'invention porte sur un procédé et un appareil servant à détecter des conditions de pression élevée au sein d'un contacteur. Les étapes du procédé consistent à employer un guide d'ondes soniques pour injecter un son ultrasonique de haute intensité dans la paroi externe d'un contacteur à dépression, puis à attendre les signaux de réponse qui ont été réfléchis et retransmis. On utilise les caractéristiques des signaux de réponse pour déterminer la pression régnant à l'intérieur du contacteur et pour identifier le moment auquel une condition de pression élevée indésirable se manifeste.
