The electrically variable transmission family of the present invention provides low-content, low-cost electrically variable transmission mechanisms including first and second differential gear sets, a battery, two electric machines serving interchangeably as motors or generators, five selectable torque-transfer devices, and a dog clutch. The selectable torque transfer devices are engaged singly or in combinations of two, three or four to yield an EVT with a continuously variable range of speeds (including reverse) and up to four mechanically fixed forward speed ratios. The torque transfer devices and the first and second motor/generators are operable to provide five operating modes in the electrically variable transmission, including battery reverse mode, EVT reverse mode, reverse and forward launch modes, continuously variable transmission range mode, and fixed ratio mode.

La présente invention a trait à une famille de transmission à variabilité électrique fournissant des mécanismes de transmission à variabilité électrique économique et à faible teneur comportant des premier et deuxième trains planétaires différentiels, une batterie, deux machines électriques servant de manière interchangeable de moteurs ou de générateurs, cinq dispositifs de transfert de couple au choix, et un embrayage à griffes. Les dispositifs de transfert de couple au choix sont en prise individuellement ou en combinaisons de deux trois ou quatre pour assurer une transmission à variabilité électrique selon une plage de vitesses variable en continu (y compris la marche arrière) et jusqu'à quatre rapports de vitesse de marche avant mécaniquement fixes. Les dispositifs de transfert de couple et les premier et deuxième moteurs/générateurs servent à assurer cinq modes de fonctionnement dans la transmission à variabilité électrique, comprenant un mode en marche arrière de batteri, un mode en marche arrière de transmission à variabilité électrique, des modes de lancement en marche arrière et avant, un mode de plage de transmission à variabilité en continu, et un mode de rapport fixe.
