A method and an apparatus (30) automatically detect vessels in a diagnostic image. The method according to one embodiment accesses digital image data (step 112) representing a diagnostic image; and detects vessel candidates in the diagnostic image by processing the diagnostic image data, the step of detecting vessel candidates including identifying edge pixel pairs of vessels in the diagnostic image (step 294) by iteratively adjusting a plurality of constraints relating to a general direction and shape of a vessel for a next iteration of edge pixel pair identification in the diagnostic image, and determining whether the plurality of edge pixel pairs form a vessel (step 510) using features learned from previous data.

L'invention porte sur un procédé et un appareil (30) de détection automatique des vaisseaux dans une image diagnostique. Dans une exécution, le procédé permet d'accéder aux données numériques de l'image diagnostique et de détecter les candidats à des vaisseaux dans l'image diagnostique en en traitant les données. Cette dernière étape consiste à identifier les paires de pixels de bordure des vaisseaux de l'image diagnostique, en ajustant par itération les différentes contraintes relatives à la direction et à la forme du vaisseau, pour l'itération suivante d'identification des paires de pixels de bordure de l'image diagnostique, et à déterminer si l'ensemble des paires de pixels de bordure forme un vaisseau en utilisant les caractéristiques apprises dans les données précédentes.
