(EN)The inventive method for authenticating an object consists in applying a first macroscopic mark (11), for example by photolithography on a substrate, in defining a particular location for said first mark (11) to be used in the form of an geometrical origin (15) of a co-ordinate system (14), in computing the location co-ordinates (xi, yi) to be occupied by second marks (12) with the aid of an encoding algorithm using the identification number assigned to the object and in producing the second marks (12) on the computed locations. The second marks are selected such that they are nanometric and advantageously produced by means of a local probe microscope which is also used for verifying the object authenticity by controlling the second marks (12) at the calculated locations, thereby making it possible to obtain an optimal security authentication marking.
(FR)Le procede d'authentification d'un objet comprend I'application d'une premiere marque macroscopique (11), par exemple par photolithographie sur un substrat, Ia definition d'un endroit particulier de la premiere marque (11) destine a servir d'origine geometrique (15) d'un systeme de coordonnees (14), le calcul des coordonnees (xi.yi) d'emplacements que devront occuper des secondes marques (12) a l'aide d'un algorithme de codage utilisant un numero d'identification attribue a l'objet et la realisation des secondes marques (12) audits emplacements calcules. Les secondes marques sont de preference de taille nanometrique et realisees avantageusement au moyen d'un microscope a sonde locale, qui est egalement destine a verifier l'authenticite de l'objet en contrôlant la presence des secondes marques (12) aux emplacements calcules. On obtient ainsi un marquage d'authentification d'une securite optimale.
