(EN)Processes using cryogenic distillation columns in a front-end fractionation unit that more efficiently recover one or more useful component from a mixture containing a plurality of volatile organic compounds are disclosed. Beneficially, processes of the invention are used for initial fractionation of cracked gas stream (100) containing olefins such as are typically produced by thermal cracking of suitable hydrocarbon feedstocks, by chilling a portion of the cracked gas stream by indirect heat exchange (106) with the column overheads stream (110), directing the chilled portion to the cryogenic distillation tower (105), and directing a second portion (101) of the cracked gas stream to separate point on the cryogenic distillation tower.
