What is claimed is:

1. A surgical saw (30) comprising:
a housing (34) having a distal end;
a motor (40) disposed in the housing;
a saw head (48) that extends into the distal end of the housing that is rotatable around an axis that extends from the housing distal end;
a blade mount (56) mounted to the saw head, the blade mount having a retention assembly (62) for removably holding a saw blade (32) to the blade mount and being coupled to the motor so as to be actuated by motor;
characterized in that:
a biasing assembly (190, 194, 196) extends between the housing and the saw head for urging the saw head against a surface of the housing; and
a lock assembly (54) separate from said biasing assembly extends between the housing and the saw head, said lock assembly having a lock pin (201) that selectively engages one of either the housing or the saw head for releasably holding the saw head in a fixed rotational position around the housing distal end axis.

2. The surgical saw of Claim 1, wherein said biasing assembly (190, 194, 196) is rotatable around the housing distal end axis .

3. The surgical saw of Claims 1 or 2, wherein
the head distal end includes an interior surface;
the saw head (48) includes a neck (50) that extends into the distal end of the housing (34); and
said biasing assembly includes: a ring (190) that is disposed in the housing that is rotatable within the housing; and a biasing member (194) that extends from said ring to said neck so as to urge said neck the housing interior surface.

4. The surgical saw of Claims 1, 2 or 3, wherein:
a bearing assembly (189) is disposed between the housing (34) and an adjacent annular surface (92) of the saw head (48); and
said biasing assembly (190, 194, 196) urges the saw head annular surface (92) against said bearing assembly.

5. The surgical saw of Claim 4, wherein the saw head is further formed so that the annular surface (92) that abuts said bearing assembly is angled relative to the axis that extends through the housing distal end.

6. The surgical saw of Claims 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5, wherein one of the housing or the saw head are formed with plural spaced apart spaces arranged in a circle, each space dimensioned to receive the lock pin (201) .

The surgical saw of Claims 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6, wherein said lock assembly further includes: a link (214) from which said lock pin (201) extends; and a release button (230) that extends from said link for displacing said link and said lock pin so that lock pin can be selectively moved from a first position in which said lock pin engages the housing or the saw head and a second position in which said lock pin is spaced from the housing or the saw head.

8. The surgical saw of Claim 7, further including a wherein said lock assembly biasing further includes a biasing member (234) that holds said lock pin (201) in the first position.

9. The surgical saw of Claims 7 or 8, wherein:
the housing is formed to define a plurality of
arcuately spaced apart slots (74) each slot dimensioned to receive said lock pin;
said lock pin (201) extends from a first opening (102) formed in the head into one of the head slots;
said index link (214) extends from the housing into the head; and
said release button (230) extends from said index link out through a second opening (122) formed in the head.

10. The surgical saw of Claims 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9, wherein the housing (34) the saw head (48) and said biasing assembly (190, 194, 196) are arranged so that said basing assembly urges the saw head inwardly into the distal end of the housing.

11. The surgical saw of Claims 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10, wherein the blade mount (56) is rotatably mounted in the saw head and is connected to said motor by a drive link (58) so that said blade mount moves in a sagittal pattern.

12. A surgical sagittal saw assembly (30) comprising: a housing (34) ;
a motor (40) disposed in the housing;
a blade mount (56) moveably mounted to the housing, the blade mount having a slot (60) for receiving a sagittal saw blade (32) , the saw blade having a width, and being connected to the motor by a drive link (52) so that the blade mount oscillates in a sagittal plane;
characterized in that;
the blade mount (56) is formed so that the slot (60) is defined by: opposed top and bottom surfaces (160, 165, 167, 168) ; and opposed side walls, wherein the side walls are shaped and positioned relative to each other so that at least one of the side walls has a first surface (161) that is spaced from the surface of the opposed side wall to define a slot first section having a width greater than the width of the saw blade and a second surface (162) that is tapered inwardly so as to have at section thereof that is spaced from the surface of the opposed side wall to define a slot second section having a width less than the width of the saw blade; and
a retaining member (240) extends from the blade mount into the slot for receiving the saw blade; and
a clamping assembly (62) is secured to the blade mount for urging the saw blade from the first slot section to the second slot section so that the saw blade is pressed against the at least one side wall tapered second surface

13. The surgical saw of Claim 12, wherein said blade mount is defined so that the opposed side walls each have a first surface (161) , the first surfaces defining the slot first section and a second surface (162) , the second
surfaces being inwardly tapered inwardly toward each other so as to define the slot second section.

14. The surgical saw of Claims 12 or 13, wherein:
one of the blade mount top or bottom surfaces defines a base of the slot first section;

said retaining member (240) extends into a proximal portion of the slot;
said clamping assembly (62) includes a retractable member (244) that selectively extends from the base of the slot first section towards the slot second section, said retractable member being located distal to said retaining member.

15. The surgical saw of Claim 14, wherein the other of the blade mount bottom or top interior surfaces defines a top of the slot second section and is formed from a
plurality surfaces (166, 167) that are angled relative to each other so as to define a void space continuous with the slot second section.

16. The surgical saw of Claims 12, 13, 14 or 15, wherein said clamping assembly (62) includes:
a retractable member (244) that selectively extends from the slot first section towards the slot second section; a biasing member (320) that normally urges said
retractable member towards the slot second section; and
a manually actuated retraction assembly (280, 304) for selectively retracting said retractable member out of the slot .

17. The surgical saw of Claims 12, 13, 14, 15 or 16, wherein the blade mount is moveably mounted to a head (48) and said head is rotatably attached to the housing (34) .
