Abstract:
(EN) A method and associated system (300) for delivering intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) uses variable feathering field splitting for intensity modulated fields of large size. Processor (112) controls a beam-shaping device (106) so that the beam-shaping device splits the radiation beam into a plurality of radiation fields delivered to the patient (102). Processor (112) in cooperation with beam-shaping device (106) implements a variable feathering method which includes the steps of providing an intensity matrix for the treatment of a patient, the intensity matrix having a plurality of rows and columns for spanning a prescribed radiation field including a prescribed field width. The prescribed width is compared to a maximum field width provided by the radiation treatment system. The intensity matrix is split into a plurality of spatially overlapping intensity submatrices when the prescribed width exceeds the maximum field width, wherein the splitting comprises variably feathering the intensity matrix. Radiotherapy is then provided to the patient (102) using a leaf sequencing method to generate the submatrices.
(FR) L'invention concerne un procédé et un système (300) associé permettant d'administrer une radiothérapie modulée en intensité (IMRT), qui utilisent une division de champ d'adoucissement de champs modulés en intensité de grande dimension. Le processeur (112) commande un dispositif de mise en forme de faisceaux (106). Ce dernier divise le faisceau de rayonnement en plusieurs champs de rayonnement administrés au patient (102). Le processeur (112), en coopération avec le dispositif de mise en forme de faisceau (106), met en oeuvre un procédé d'adoucissement variable qui consiste notamment à fournir une matrice d'intensité pour le traitement d'un patient, ladite matrice d'intensité présentant plusieurs rangées et colonnes permettant de couvrir un champ de rayonnement prescrit comprenant une largeur de champ prescrite. On compare cette largeur prescrite à une largeur de champ maximale produite par le système de traitement par rayonnement. La matrice d'intensité est divisée en plusieurs sous-matrices d'intensité se superposant spatialement lorsque la largeur prescrite excède la largeur de champ maximale, la division consistant alors à adoucir de manière variable la matrice d'intensité. La radiothérapie est alors administrée au patient (102) suivant un procédé de séquençage de lamelles pour produire lesdites sous-matrices.
