(EN)The present invention is directed to natural cellulosic fiber bundles from cornhusks preferably having a length, width, strength, elongation, or other properties desirable for textile and other applications. For example, the fiber bundles may have a length that is greater than that of ultimate cornhusk fibers and a fineness of at least about 1 denier and no greater than about 300 denier. The present invention is also directed to textiles that comprise the fiber bundles. Additionally, the present invention is directed to a method for extracting such natural cellulosic fiber bundles from cornhusks, the method comprising performing an alkali treatment, an enzyme treatment, or both to separate the fiber bundles from connecting material in the cornhusks.
(FR)La présente invention concerne des touffes de fibres de cellulose naturelle tirées des spathes du maïs, présentant des propriétés de longueur, largeur, résistance, élongation et autres intéressantes pour le textile et d'autres applications. Ainsi, les touffes de fibres peuvent atteindre une longueur supérieure à celles des meilleures fibres de spathes de maïs et une finesse d'au moins environ 1 denier sans excéder environ 300 deniers.
