Abstract:
(EN) The light modulator (1) for modulating light has a light modulating element (2) and a controller (100,95). For the light modulator (1) to have a stack of at least two differently addressable media, which light modulator (1) can relatively easy be manufactured, the light modulating element (2) has a first and a second medium, each medium extending in a first direction (22) and having a physical state depending on potentials applied to the first and the second medium, and an optical state depending on the physical states. Furthermore, the controller (100,95) is arranged for bringing the first and the second medium in physical states for modulating the light, the controller (100,95) having a configuration of electrodes (95), the configuration extending in the first direction (22); the first medium, the second medium and the configuration of electrodes (95) forming a stack; the electrodes of the configuration (95) being arranged for applying the potentials to the first and the second medium; and decoupling means arranged for decoupling a change in physical state of the first medium from a change in physical state of the second medium in response to the applied potentials.
(FR) Cette invention concerne un modulateur de lumière (1) permettant de moduler la lumière et comportant un élément de modulation de lumière (2) et une unité de commande (100, 95). Pour que le modulateur de lumière (1) comporte une pile d'au moins deux milieux différemment adressables, ledit modulateur de lumière (1) pouvant être fabriqué relativement facilement, l'élément de modulation de lumière (2) comprend un premier et deuxième milieu, chaque milieu s'étendant dans une première direction (22) et présentant un état physique dépendant de potentiels appliqués sur le premier et le deuxième milieu, ainsi qu'un état optique dépendant des états physiques. En outre, l'unité de commande (100, 95) est conçue pour mettre le premier et le deuxième milieu dans des états physiques permettant de moduler la lumière, l'unité de commande (100, 95) présentant une configuration d'électrodes (95), la configuration s'étendant dans la première direction (22), le premier milieu, le deuxième milieu et la configuration d'électrodes (95) formant une pile, les électrodes de la configuration (95) étant conçues pour appliquer les potentiels sur le premier et le deuxième milieu. L'élément de modulation de lumière comprend également une unité de découplage conçue pour découpler une variation de l'état physique du premier milieu à partir d'une variation de l'état physique du deuxième milieu en réponse aux potentiels appliqués.
