Abstract:
(EN) An electro-absorption modulator integrated with a vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL). An electro-absorption modulator (EAM) is integrated or grown on a VCSEL. The electro-absorption modulator may be separated from the VCSEL by a semi- insulating or nonconducting layer. Contacts on the EAM can bias the EAM such that 0 light emitted by the VCSEL is selectively absorbed. Thus, the VCSEL can emit a constant wave light that is modulated by the integrated EAM.
(FR) L'invention a pour objet un modulateur d'absorption électrique intégré dans un laser à cavité verticale émettant par la surface (VCSEL). On intègre ou on développe un modulateur d'absorption électrique sur un VCSEL. Le modulateur d'absorption électrique peut être séparé du VCSEL par une couche semi-isolante ou non conductrice. Des contacts placés sur l'EAM peuvent polariser l'EAM de sorte que la lumière émise par le VCSEL est absorbée sélectivement. Ainsi, le VCSEL peut émettre une onde lumineuse constante qui est modulée par l'EAM intégré.
