Abstract:
(EN) A method for screening fiber polarization mode dispersion using a polarization optical time domain reflectometer. A pulse radiation is emitted into the fiber under test, and the backscattered radiation is measured by the POTDR and used to obtain a POTDR trace. A composite trace of more than one POTDR trace is obtained. The composite trace is then analyzed to compare the variation of signals along the length of the fiber, the variation in signals relating to the level of PMD along the length of the fiber. Because high levels of PMD correspond to localized levels of low variability, by setting the variability of signal threshold sufficiently low, fibers having unacceptably high localized PMD can be identified and removed.
(FR) Procédé d'évaluation de la dispersion de mode de polarisation d’une fibre au moyen d’un réflectomètre optique temporel à polarisation. Une radiation d’impulsion est émise dans la fibre à tester, et la radiation rétrodiffusée est mesurée par le POTDR et utilisée pour obtenir une trace de POTDR. L'on obtient ainsi une trace composite de plus d'une trace de POTDR. La trace composite est ensuite analysée pour comparer la variation des signaux le long de la fibre, la variation des signaux se rapportant au niveau de PMD le long de la fibre. Comme des niveaux élevés de PMD correspondent à des niveaux localisés de faible variabilité, le réglage d’un seuil de variabilité de signal suffisamment bas permet d’identifier et de retirer des fibres présentant une PMD localisée élevée inacceptable.
