Abstract:
(EN) The present invention refers to a method for increasing plant resistance to infection by Sugarcane Mosaic Virus (SCMV). Such method comprises transforming or transfecting said plant with an expression vector comprising a promoter operably linked to a nucleic acid molecule encoding (i) a protein having properties of the coat protein of said SCMV, or (ii) an anti-sense RNA molecule complementary to the plus strand RNA of the coat protein gene or (iii) a hairpin dsRNA molecule for the coat protein gene of said SCMV, wherein expression of said expression cassette inhibits infection by SCMV. The present invention also refers to a transgenic plant, or a part, or a propagule or a progeny thereof tolerant, resistant or immune to Sugarcane Mosaic Virus. The genome of such plant comprises one or more copies of a nucleic acid molecule sequence which encodes (i) a protein having properties of the coat protein of said SCMV, or (ii) an anti-sense RNA molecule complementary to the plus strand RNA of the coat protein gene or (iii) a hairpin dsRNA molecule for the coat protein gene of said SCMV.
(FR) L'invention porte sur une méthode d'accroissement de la résistance de plantes au virus mosaïque de la cane à sucre (SCMV) consistant: à transformer ou transfecter la plante au moyen d'un vecteur d'expression comprenant un promoteur fonctionnellement lié à une molécule d'acide nucléique codant pour: (i) une protéine présentant les propriétés de la protéine de coque du SCMV, ou (ii) une molécule d'ARN antisens complémentaire du brin plus du gène de la protéine de coque, ou (iii) une molécule d'ARN double brin en épingle à cheveu du gène de la protéine de coque du SCMV, l'expression de ladite cassette d'expression inhibant l'infection par le SCMV. L'invention porte également sur une plante transgénique, ou l'une de ses parties, ou une de ses propagules ou l'un de ses descendant, présentant une résistance ou u ne immunité vis-à-vis du SCMV. Le génome d'une telle plante comporte une ou plusieurs copies d'une séquence de molécule d'acide nucléique codant pour: (i) une protéine présentant les propriétés de la protéine de coque du SCMV, ou (ii) une molécule d'ARN antisens complémentaire du brin plus du gène de la protéine de coque, ou (iii) une molécule d'ARN double brin en épingle à cheveu du gène de la protéine de coque du SCMV.
