Abstract:
(EN) A flammability tester for samples in the milligram range. A tube (40) with a lower pyrolyzing region, or pyrolyzer (42), contains a sample (10) that is heated to thermally degrade in the absence of oxygen, or pyrolyzed, to produce fuel gases. An inert gas carries the fuel gases to an upper combustion region, or combustor (46) , where oxygen is metered into the gas flow. Combustion occurs at a temperature where the reaction time of the fuel gases is ≤ 10 seconds. Under these conditions, the combustor volume need for compete combustion is small, permitting the fuel gases to be oxidized as they are liberated and travel from the pyrolyzer into the combustor in what is essentially sequential flow. Complete combustion in such a small volume produces a large decrease in the oxygen content of the gases emerging from the combustor, allowing the use of a simple inexpensive oxygen analyzer (72) to measure the oxygen content of the gases emerging from the combustor.
(FR) L'invention concerne un testeur de flammabilité pour des échantillons de l'ordre du milligramme. Un tube (40) comprenant une région de pyrolyse inférieure ou pyrolyseur (42) contient un échantillon (10) qui est chauffé de façon à se dégrader thermiquement en l'absence d'oxygène ou pyrolysé pour produire des gaz combustibles. Un gaz inerte transporte les gaz combustibles jusqu'à une région de combustion supérieure ou combusteur (46) où l'oxygène est mesuré dans l'écoulement gazeux. La combustion se produit à une température à laquelle le temps de réaction des gaz combustibles est $m(F) 10 secondes. Dans ces conditions, pour obtenir une combustion complète, il est nécessaire que le volume du combusteur soit petit, ce qui permet l'oxydation des gaz combustibles au moment où ils sont libérés et se sortent du pyrolyseur pour pénétrer dans le combusteur dans lequel est maintenu un écoulement essentiellement séquentiel. La combustion complète réalisée dans ce petit volume entraîne une importante réduction de la teneur en oxygène des gaz sortant du combusteur, ce qui permet d'utiliser un analyseur d'oxygène (72) simple et peu coûteux pour mesurer la teneur en oxygène des gaz sortant du combusteur.
