Abstract
(EN) An orthopedic device is described for stabilizing the spinal column between first and second vertebral bodies. The device has first and second screws adapted for fixation to the first and second vertebral bodies, respectively. The device further includes an elongated ligament with a first end connected to the first screw and the second end operatively connected with the second screw. The ligament is made preferably of a nickel titanium alloy selected to have ductile inelastic properties at body temperature and is capable of plastic deformation to allow relative constrained motion between the vertebral bodies. The preferred nickel titanium has a martensite/austenite transition temperature above body temperature. In a preferred embodiment, the second pedicle screw includes a bearing for receiving the ligament in a slidably engageable relationship. The device further includes optional first and second dampening members surrounding the ligament for restraining the spinal column during flexion and extension.
(FR) L'invention concerne un dispositif orthopédique permettant la stabilisation de la colonne vertébrale entre un premier et un second corps vertébral. Ce dispositif comprend une première et une seconde vis conçues pour être fixées sur le premier et sur le second corps vertébral respectivement. Le dispositif comprend en outre un ligament allongé dont la première extrémité est reliée à la première vis et la seconde extrémité est reliée de manière opérationnelle à la seconde vis. Le ligament est de préférence formé d'un alliage nickel-titane sélectionné de manière à présenter des caractéristiques inélastiques ductiles à la température du corps, et pouvant subir une déformation plastique de manière à autoriser un mouvement relatif limité entre les corps vertébraux. L'alliage nickel-titane préféré présente une température de transition martensite-austénite supérieure à la température du corps. Dans une forme de réalisation préférée, la seconde vis pédiculaire comprend un support dans lequel le ligament peut venir se glisser pour être fixé. Le dispositif comprend en outre un premier est un second élément amortisseurs entourant le ligament afin de retenir la colonne vertébrale pendant les mouvements de flexion et d'extension.
