Abstract
(EN) Disclosed herein is a composition of matter comprising a blend of discontinuous thermoplastic starch domains in a synthetic polymer, said composition of matter being characterized by an average diameter of thermoplastic starch domains of about 0.2 to about 1.5 microns. Also disclosed are compositions of matter comprising a blend of discontinuous thermoplastic starch domains in a synthetic polymer and being characterized by finished articles having key mechanical properties which are essentially maintained or in some cases improved over pure synthetic polymers. In yet another aspect, the present invention provides a method for making the material of the present invention. In a related aspect, the present invention provides the novel materials issued from the method of making the material. In other aspects, the present invention provides novel finished article compositions in the form of films or molded articles.
(FR) L'invention concerne une composition de matière comprenant un mélange de domaines d'amidon thermoplastique discontinus dans un polymère synthétique, ladite composition de matière étant caractérisée par un diamètre moyen des domaines d'amidon thermoplastique compris entre environ 0,2 et environ 1,5 microns. L'invention concerne également des compositions de matière comprenant un mélange de domaines d'amidon thermoplastique discontinus dans un polymère synthétique et caractérisées par des articles finis présentant des propriétés mécaniques clés qui sont sensiblement conservées ou dans certains cas améliorées par rapport à des polymères synthétiques purs. Dans un autre aspect encore, la présente invention concerne un procédé de préparation du matériau de la présente invention. Dans un aspect associé, la présente invention concerne les nouveaux matériaux obtenus à partir du procédé de préparation du matériau. Dans d'autres aspects, la présente invention concerne de nouvelles compositions d'articles finis sous la forme de films ou d'articles moulés.
