A sound damping material (16) for use in a sound damping laminate (10) having one or more rigid layers (12, 14), such as those used in the automotive industry. The sound damping material (16) is preferably a viscoelastic material that damps or otherwise inhibits the transmission of vibrational or acoustical energy through laminate (10), and also acts as an adhesive for bonding the rigid layers (12, 14) together. In its cured form, sound damping material layer (16) preferably includes an acrylate-based polymer matrix (20), and one or more of the following components: a precipitated phase (22), a viscous phase (24), and miscellaneous constituents (26). The acrylate-based polymer matrix (20) is the reaction product of at least one acrylate-based monomer, such as isobornyl acrylate.

L'invention concerne une matière d'amortissement sonore (16) à utiliser dans un stratifié d'isolation phonique (10) présentant au moins une couche rigide (12, 14). Cette matière est analogue à celles utilisées dans l'industrie automobile. Cette matière d'amortissement sonore (16) est de préférence une matière viscoélastique qui amortit ou qui inhibe la transmission d'énergie vibratoire ou acoustique à travers le stratifié (10), et qui agit également comme un adhésif pour coller les couches rigides (12, 14) ensemble. Sous sa forme durcie, la couche de matière d'amortissement sonore (16) comprend de préférence une matrice polymère à base d'acrylate (20), et au moins un des composants suivants: une phase précipitée (22), une phase visqueuse (24), et divers constituants (26). La matrice polymère à base d'acrylate (20) est le produit réactionnel d'au moins un monomère à base d'acrylate, notamment de l'acrylate d'isobornyle.
